The 1958 Jacket

I was very excited to purchase a 1958 Goldtop jacket and viewed it as an investment in a premium piece of riding gear. Unfortunately, my experience has been disappointing both in terms of customer service and product quality.

When the jacket first arrived, I was sent the wrong size (44 instead of the 42 I ordered), despite having previously discussed sizing to make sure I chose the correct fit. Considering the jacket had to be shipped internationally, this was already frustrating and inconvenient. Communication during this time was also quite slow, with long delays between email replies.

When I first tried installing the armour, the Velcro immediately caught the polyester lining and ripped it, which was very surprising for a product marketed as a premium, handcrafted jacket.

Eventually I received the correct size at the start of December. During the exchange, I was told there would be a small goodwill addition included with the replacement jacket for the inconvenience, but this was never included when it arrived.

Because it was the middle of summer in Melbourne and I was also away travelling for nearly two months, I didn’t begin wearing the jacket properly until recently. After only a handful of rides, I discovered that both cuffs now have holes in the lining, with long threads coming loose and the stitching clearly starting to unravel.

This level of wear after such minimal use is honestly appalling for a jacket at this price point. I had very high expectations for a brand with Goldtop’s reputation and heritage, but the combination of slow communication, the initial sizing mistake, the missing goodwill gesture, and the poor durability of the lining has made this a very disappointing purchase.

I have this jacket in BRG already, and am very pleased. Same here, great color, unusual. Top quality, great value for money, as always.

Its another beautifully made leather! No surprises there. I havent ridden in it or worn it yet, but i threw it on when it got here, and its a great colour and shape. Heavy leather. Did i get the right size? Not sure. Could have been one size smaller i reckon. Hmm.

CE AAA certification AND exquisite leather and build/construction is a unicorn, yet Goldtop consistently delivers.
