Armour explained
Every Goldtop jacket comes with CE certified shoulder and elbow armour fitted. You can upgrade it, and you can add a back protector. Here is what the levels mean and how each one differs, so you can pick the one that suits how you ride.
Level 1 and Level 2
Armour is tested by dropping a set weight onto it and measuring how much force gets through to the other side. Less through means less into your joint. Both levels are certified protection. Level 2 simply lets about half as much force through as Level 1.
Level 1
Certified protection. Fitted to every jacket as standard, at no cost.
Level 2
Roughly half the transmitted force of Level 1. A £20 upgrade on any jacket.
Shoulder and elbow
Knox Microlock Level 1
Soft, generously sized pads covering a wide area of the joint. Thicker and squashier than the Level 2 options. It is proper certified armour, and it is included.
D3O Ghost Level 1
The thinnest armour we fit. If your priority is not being able to tell you are wearing any, this is the one to choose.
Knox Microlock Compact Level 2
Covers the largest area of the Level 2 options, so more of the joint is protected. Soft to the touch and stiffens on impact. The honeycomb structure is vented, and at 9mm it is thinner than the Level 1 pad it replaces, which is the part most people do not expect.
D3O Diablo Level 2
The most flexible Level 2 armour we fit, and perforated throughout for airflow. D3O is a rate sensitive polymer: soft and pliable while you ride, locking together the instant it is struck. Choose this one if you want Level 2 that you barely notice moving with you.
D3O Ghost Level 2
The slimmest Level 2 profile we fit, though only slightly slimmer than the other two. It sits firmer against the arm than the Diablo does.
Back protectors
A back protector is not fitted as standard. Every Goldtop jacket has a pocket ready for one. Your back is the part of you with nothing else in front of it, so if you add one upgrade to your jacket, we would make it this one.
Knox Microlock Compact Level 2
Covers a larger area of the back than the alternatives, and stays soft against you until the moment it is needed. Vented, and flat enough in the pocket that it does not change how the jacket sits across your shoulders.
D3O Viper Air Level 2
Level 2 protection in a smaller, heavily vented pad. Firmer to the touch than the Knox, and covering less area, but the most breathable back protector we sell.
D3O Ghost Level 1
The thinnest back protector we fit, at Level 1. Choose it if profile matters to you more than the extra margin Level 2 gives.
The short version
Every jacket arrives with certified armour in the shoulders and elbows, so you are covered whatever you choose. Level 2 halves the force that reaches the joint for £20. A back protector covers the one part of you that nothing else does.
